A police officer who has not been identified is accused of tearing a married woman’s waist jewellery during a raid that led to the arrest of the woman’s husband, Sixtus Arthur.

Veronica Arthur, a woman, said that on July 11, 2023, in the late afternoon, she and her husband were in their room when more than 15 men approached them while pretending to be police officers.

She said that one of the officers grabbed her by the waist and tore her waist beads in the heat of the moment after the men had forcibly detained her husband, according to a report by 3news.com.

Around one in the morning, when we were sleeping, we heard a tap on the door. When we opened the door, roughly 15 males who were acting like police officers appeared.

“They broke into our room and immediately began looking for my husband. Despite my attempts to speak with them, they continued shoving me away. One of the cops grabbed my waist, pushed me back, and tore my beads just as I wanted to walk outside and relieve myself. When I returned to the room, I discovered that they were violently treating my husband without cause, the distraught Veronica Arthur claimed in a radio interview.

The Western Region’s Nkroful is where the event took place.

Only one of the males that visited their home, according to her, was wearing a police uniform out of the other four, she added.

A pump action gun and a uniformed individual were among them. According to the story, several of the others were carrying spanners.

In addition, Sixtus Arthur’s mother, Naana Yaaba, said in a statement that after searching many police stations, they have not been able to determine her son’s location as of yet.

To no effect, we visited the police stations in Central, Harbour, and Sekondi to see whether he had been delivered there. She said, “At this time, we are unsure of where he has been taken.

The article further stated that although it is unknown what led to the arrest, there are suspicions that the incident may have something to do with a current chieftaincy dispute given that Sixtus is reportedly the substantive chief, Nana Kobina Gyan II.
